Your question answered: Safety

It's important for us that you know all about the safety of Pharmaton® Capsules and possible risks. Be sure, they are safe - have a look at the answers to the following questions:

1.

It is safe to use them after the expiry date?

2.

How can you be sure of no contamination?

3.

Do they interact with other medications?

4.

Could a person with hypertension take them?

5.

Can they be taken in pregnancy?

1. It is safe to use them after the expiry date?
As long as the bottles were not opened, microbiological purity can be guaranteed, thus there are no safety concerns. If, on the other hand, the bottles were opened, the content should be used within a reasonable time frame (say, 1 month) to avoid microbial contamination. Do not take Pharmaton® if the expiry date on the packaging has passed. After the expiry date we cannot guarantee microbiological purity anymore, neither the full efficacy of the product, as the contents of the active ingredients could be reduced as compared to the declaration

2. How can you be sure of no contamination?
As a crop, the quality of ginseng roots can vary significantly from one farm to another, and even from one harvest to another. Without proper quality-assurance guidelines, contamination with chemicals and pesticides is possible. In fact, in 1990 Pharmaton typically rejected up to 80% of the raw material batches it considered buying, due mainly to pesticide and toxic residues. However, today, due to our extensive efforts in working with farmers and supervising the cultivation and harvesting processes, almost 90% of incoming ginseng batches meet our high Pharmaton standards.

3. Do they interact with other medications?
So far no interactions are known between Pharmaton® and other medications. If a consumer, however, is taking any medication, he should consult the treating physician before taking Pharmaton®, because interactions between medications can never be excluded.

4. Could a person with hypertension take them?
In a post-marketing surveillance study in which 1800 elderly patients were treated with Pharmaton® and monitored over a period of up to 21 months no changes in blood pressure were registered. Our many years of experience does not indicate that Pharmaton® is contraindicated in people with hypertension. For safety reasons, however, we suggest that the treating physician be consulted and the intake of the product by an hypertensive patient be monitored during the first months, as interactions with the drugs used to treat hypertension cannot be excluded.

5. Can they be taken in pregnancy?
Used in the recommended dosage there is no evidence that Pharmaton® represents a risk for the fetus during pregnancy. Controlled studies with pregnant women, however, are so far not available.
As with many other medicines, an assessment of benefits versus risks should be made before Pharmaton® is administered in this period. According to general medical practice, the use of this product by pregnant or lactating women should be decided by the prescribing physician.
